Building Bridges

About Us

Building Bridges, Overcoming Racism

Building Bridges participants bump fists.Since 1993, Building Bridges has deeply affected people and institutions throughout Western North Carolina. To date, more than 1000 participants have attended the program. Participants have come from Asheville, Hendersonville, Black Mountain, Lake Junaluska, Franklin, Cherokee, Waynesville, Madison County and Rutherfordton. The program has been hosted at the following churches; New Mount Olive Baptist, Grace Covenant Presbyterian, Hill Street Baptist, Mount Zion Missionary Baptist, All Souls Episcopal, Jubilee!, St. Paul's Methodist, Nazareth First Baptist, Berry Temple United Methodist, Temple Beth Ha-Tephila, Reid Community Center, MAHEC, A-B Tech, Central United Methodist Church and Bahaí Faith Center.

We have successfully completed many Building Bridges series. Each series is special because the curriculum continues to evolve in response to suggestions made in previous series. A grant from the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina in 1995 helped tailor the curriculum especially for the Asheville area.

Large group presentations of each topic are followed by small group discussions that stimulate meaningful conversations. The reading material is specifically relevant to conditions in Asheville.

Through Building Bridges Western North Carolinians of many races and beliefs are meeting face-to-face...and discovering that they can be friends.

Continuing Education credits are awarded for participation in all of our programs.
